Visitor and Volunteer Comments

Some of the lovely comments from our own volunteers:

“I am learning useful skills which I will use for the rest of my life and gaining experience which is giving me more confidence that I will find a meaningful career. The group also gives me a good way to socialise with friendly people, and makes me feel like I am contributing positively to local community.”

“The opportunity to volunteer has helped boost my mental and physical health. Working with a lovely group of people across all ages and abilities and in a wonderful environment surrounded by beautiful plants has lifted my spirits and helped me get through some very hard times. Thank you Oldroyd’s.”

“Volunteering at Oldroyd’s Corner has been life changing for me. It has given me a lot more confidence, more than I have had for years. I loved passing on the horticultural knowledge I worked so hard to learn with the RHS a few years ago. I very much enjoy my fellow volunteers’ company and friendships. The varying ages of the group gives our conversations interesting twists and turns. In short, I love it.”

“Volunteering at Oldroyd’s Corner with a lovely group of people in nice surroundings is a pleasure that I look forward to every week.”

“I joined Oldroyd’s volunteers almost two years ago, after finding myself living on my own and with a mobility problem. You don’t have to be an accomplished gardener as there is always something you can do, no matter how small a task. We have quite an age range between us, but we’re a very happy family of volunteers and it’s become my lifeline.”

“I enjoy volunteering at Oldroyd’s because I learn something new almost every week and I can apply what I’ve learned in a calm environment. It’s also made a positive impact on my social skills as all the other volunteers are really nice and helpful, so I always feel welcome there.”

“I enjoy the gardening side of volunteering at Oldroyd’s. It’s a lovely, calm environment to work in with no pressure to do more than you can handle. The people I work with are all different but everyone has something to offer and it’s a pleasure to spend time with them. The other aspect is welcoming visitors to the garden, some come in regularly but I love the reaction of those who have discovered us by accident and are delighted by their first visit.”

Visitor comments

“My husband and I absolutely love the work you have done and the roses are magnificent. It is one of our favourite places to visit. Truly magical. We are starting to have our own little rose garden in our house, and the work you have done has inspired us.”
